Packaged goods, which include bottled and Jarred packaged goods, have been in vogue for a very long time. Glass jars were the primary packaging material used earlier. However, today plastic is considered to be the more suitable option. The plastic is durable and cheap, and thus preferred by many. The most common use of glass jars is in storing perishable foods like fish and meat.

The disadvantages of eating Jarred and bottled foods are generally associated with the fact that these foodstuffs usually lack in essential nutrients, especially vitamins and minerals. It has also been found out that the preservatives used in the manufacture of these packaged foods do not remain active for a long duration of time, thereby exposing the consumer to a great risk of acquiring various ailments relating to the accumulation of bacteria and fungi within the body. The various additives often used to enhance the flavor of the foods often have the side effect of causing digestive disorders like diarrhea and nausea.

There are several other disadvantages of consuming packaged goods other than the ones highlighted above. For example, people suffering from diabetes are advised to restrict the intake of packaged foods because sugar levels in these products are usually very high. High sugar contents in packaged foods may often result in a drop in the blood sugar level of a person. In this situation, it would become extremely difficult for such people to control their blood sugar levels and can cause hypoglycemia, which is a severe case of diabetic complications. The preservatives commonly used in the process of manufacturing packaged goods may sometimes prove to be detrimental to the health of an individual as they gradually accumulate contaminants from the environment.

Some health experts feel that consuming bottled and Jarred goods is preferable to consuming canned foods. However, there is a certain amount of flexibility in this assumption. For instance, while individuals suffering from diabetes can safely limit their consumption of canned foods to two or three cans per day, it may not always be possible to do so. This is because some canned foods may contain high levels of artificial additives and preservatives which may play a role in increasing the risk of diabetic complications.

However, people with high blood pressure may be consuming canned foods for hours on end and may require some cans to tide them over during the day. Hence, in this particular scenario, glass bottles seem to be a sensible alternative. They are capable of carrying a predetermined amount of food that has been weighed prior to packaging and hence, do not pose any storage problems for the person who consumes canned foods on a regular basis. Furthermore, they have the potential to retain the freshness for a longer period of time and so are not likely to go bad quickly. In fact, there are many varieties of glass bottles that come in attractive colors and designs, which may help in making food more attractive to the eye. So, if you are looking for convenient alternatives to conventional canned foods, then glass bottles are certainly worth considering.
